We chose this year’s theme to celebrate the breadth of diversity of both research areas and researchers themselves. Research suggests that the diversity of an organisation is linked to the successes of research output, productivity and innovation. However, underrepresentation of and discrimination against different diverse groups still persists across STEM. We hope that this conference will not only allow for networking across different research disciplines, and between people of different backgrounds, but will also allow for an open discussion of the issues surrounding equality, diversity and inclusion in STEM.
It has become a tradition for the conference to support a charity. This year instead of choosing one, we chose three! This is so we can advocate this year’s theme and allow exposure and support of both local and national charities. We want people to support the local, North-East organisations whilst allowing those who may not be from the North-East to access nationally available organisations.
