Conference Support

How will the conference be held?

All of the sessions of the conference this year will be delivered online, over Zoom channels. If you are presenting a talk or a poster, you will be sent instructions on how to submit your work.

You will be able to choose which sessions you want to join during the day and move between Zoom channels to take part in different sessions.

Anyone who wishes to attend the conference must register to be given access to the Zoom channels – there is no cost to attend.

So will everything be run online?

Whilst you will be able to access all of the conference content online, we would still like to give as many of you as possible the opportunity to present in front of a live audience, as well as network with your peers.

We are therefore setting up Hub locations in a wide range of North-East cities. We hope that you will be able to attend your nearest Hub location, where you will be able to access live talks, streamed content from the other locations, as well as network with people in your Hub area.

We are constantly trying to expand the number of Hub locations we have on offer but will also have to modify the use of these locations based on the government advice for large gatherings at the time of the conference on 13th November 2020. Please visit our Hub locations page for up to date information of what is on offer.

Improving accessibility for 2020

We are hoping that this new hybrid conference structure will not only allow us to make sure the conference goes ahead regardless of any potential future lockdowns but will also widen our reach to more delegates.

We are unable to provide financial support for travel/accommodation to attend one of our Hub locations, but we hope that the online experience and the introduction of events further around the country will increase our accessibility for as many delegates as possible.

Unfortunately, this year we will not be able to offer childcare at our Hub locations during the conference, but you would be very welcome to either attend a Hub location with your children or join our Zoom channels with your children – all are welcome!

Our organising committee have faced a number of challenges in bringing the conference to you all this year and are continually modifying our plans to provide you the best conference we can offer amidst the global pandemic. If you have any further suggestions as to how we can make the NEPG 2020 more accessible for you, or would like to assist in the running of one of our Hub locations, please do not hesitate to contact us on nepg.conference@newcastle.ac.uk.
